Phi Sigma Sigma sorority held its seventh annual fashion show, in which models showcased fashion designer Lauren Ashley’s clothes on Nov. 21.

Several students walked the runway to help raise money for the Miami Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network Foundation.

The show started off with a bang, however, as the “Alice in Wonderland” themed backdrop collapsed on the stage. No one was injured when it fell.

The backdrop, which was supposed to be used as doorways for the models, was placed on the back walls of the Graham Center

Ballrooms by several men from the audience who rushed to help.
However, even with the backdrop collapsing, the fashion show still continued on without any other glitches.

During the first half of the fashion show, models showcased casual and funk clothing styles for both women and men.

During intermission the audience was entertained by musical performances by the group Dear Dad, Yours Truly and the duo Juan Eraso and Danny Benchimol.

After intermission, the students modeled upscale and formal wear. The crowd especially enjoyed the swim suit portion of the fashion show, where the students modeled bikinis for women and swim trunks for men.

Before the show ended, the ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority recognized the hardwork of fellow sister Helena Ramirez, who organized the show.

Ramirez is the fashion show coordinator and the fund-raising committee chair for Phi Sigma Sigma.

“Even with the backdrop falling, the show was still a success,” said Ramirez. “I’m really happy with how it all turned out. We were able to make a lot of money for a great cause.”

At the end of the night, Phi Sigma Sigma was able to raise about $4,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network Foundation.

Several students believed the fashion show was well-put together.
“I believe that Phi Sigma Sigma did a great job putting this event together, and they made it look like a real professional fashion show,” said Leonardo Cuervo, a business and sports management major.

Cuervo also attended Phi Sigma Simga’s fashion show last year and said the sorority added many new materials this year, which made the show better.
