Golden Panthers receive votes in the latest AP rankings

It was once a distant dream that the Golden Panthers would ever have a 3-0 record after three games, in a schedule that featured a Big East school and a Central Florida team that received top 25 votes. That dream was realized when they beat UCF 17-10. Another dream is closer to becoming reality, as FIU is now receiving votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

The Golden Panthers are voted 41st in the nation, according to the AP poll. It is the first time in school history that the football program has achieved this feat. It may be difficult for FIU to advance in the polls, because they’ve already played their two toughest opponents. The last time a Sun Belt team got votes in the AP poll was in 2009 when Middle Tennessee got some.

The seven of their nine games remaining for the Golden Panthers are against SBC opponents, and the two non-conference games are on the road at Akron, who is 0-3, and the homecoming game in two weeks versus Duke, who is 1-2.

FIU will look to keep their undefeated record alive against Louisiana on Sept. 24.
