Meet Your Dean

To connect students with their respective administrations, the Student Government Council at the Biscayne Bay Campus hosted ‘Meet Your Dean’ in Wolfe University Center 223 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Students were invited to mingle with administrators from: the School of Journalism and Mass Communication; the School of Environmental, Arts, and Society; College of Arts and Sciences; the Honors College; Undergraduate Education; and University Graduate School.
SJMC Dean, Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver, was pleased with the concept, and execution of the event.
“It is important for students to meet with their administration,” said Kopenhaver. “I like how the event is formalized and it’s a great environment for students to just sit down and have a conversation [with administrators].”
SEAS Director, Michael Heithaus, pointed out that ‘Meet Your Dean’ gave administrators the chance to hear the concerns of students regarding their respective programs.
“It’s always good to get feedback and have concerns shared with us directly,” said Heithaus. “It’s a challenge to get information out there to students and this helps us to do so.”
Pablo Haspel, SGC-BBC Speaker of the Senate and organizer of ‘Meet Your Dean’, was happy with how the event turned out and the responses he received from those present.
“I’m really happy with the turnout, which seems to be the overall consensus from those involved,” said Haspel. “Students voiced their concerns and how they want more start to finish programs becoming available at BBC, and now it’s up to [SGC-BBC] so see how we can help with that.”
Although the student turnout was relatively low, with the majority leaving after grabbing some of the snacks and refreshments that were provided, Kopenhaver was optimistic about such events in the future and provided some suggestions on how to continue with ‘Meet Your Dean’.
