After starting day two of the DeMarini Invitational with a loss against Indiana FIU looked for a win against Stanford but instead where handed their worst loss of the season thus far falling to the Cardinals 10-0.
This game was a disaster in the making right from the first pitch as the Cardinal scored three runs right in the opening frame which then lead to the quick exit of starter Jenn Gniadek. This was Jenn’s shortest start thus far in 2012.
Stanford continued to add on as they put up a run in the second and three in the fourth extending their lead to 7-0. Stanford would add their final three runs in the fifth finishing the laugher of a game via the mercy rule. This was the second time the Panthers stayed scoreless in 2012.
FIU’s pitching has been dreadful thus far during the DeMarini Invitational as the Panthers starters have allowed 31 runs in four games. It also doesn’t help that offensively the team has stayed stagnant only scoring seven runs in the past four games.
The Panthers will look to finish with a win as the finish the invitational against Oregon State.
