The Homecoming Council invites classmates, their families, alumni and future Panthers to one of the University’s biggest events: Homecoming.
This year’s Homecoming week will be from Sunday, Oct. 7 to Saturday, Oct. 13, and will include a multitude of events, including the Panthermonium Concert and the Panthers’ first game of the season against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
“This year is going to be bigger than last year,” said senior Rafael Brazon-ti Fatta, assistant director of communications for the Homecoming Council. Major changes for this year’s Homecoming include the choice in the concert line-up.
The Homecoming Council surveyed students on what kind of music they would like to listen to at Homecoming.
“We wanted to bring artists that targeted different areas of the community from the school,” said Fatta. “They wanted some R&B, some pop, and we got requests for a DJ or electronic music.”
Homecoming will first kick-off with the Panthermonium Concert. This year’s line-up for the Panthermonium Concert will feature the dance-pop-punk band Cobra Starship, hip-hop artist B.o.B. and professional DJ Kaskade.
Three big changes to the Panthermonium Concert include the Panthermonium Village, seating at FIU Stadium and FIU students receiving their tickets for the event.
Before the concert, everyone can visit the Panthermonium Village and enjoy live music, visit community vendors, enjoy the kid zone for future Panthers.
Seating at FIU Stadium has been adjusted to accommodate more attendees. The stage is now at the center of the stadium, student seating has been extended from half of one end-zone to the opposite side of the field, and the VIP floor section will be on the field.
Tickets for the Panthermonium Concert will be available Wednesday, Aug. 22 and can be received at the FIU One Card office at MMC and in the Campus Life office at BBC from 9-11 a.m. and from 3-4 p.m.
Students will need their FIU One Card to receive their ticket. The ticket will be stored on your card and can be upgraded to VIP status for $35 at either locations previously mentioned, or online at hc.fiu.edu at the ticket section.
Additionally, the Panther Prowl will debut Monday, Oct. 8. Panther Prowl is Homecoming’s big comedy night, featuring Yannis Pappas as his viral alter-ego Maurica, Hannibal Buressc, co-star of Adult Swim’s “The Eric Andre Show,” and stand-up comedian Mike Epps. Panther Prowl will be at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. is Kick Off by the Bay, which takes the Homecoming celebration to BBC. Events lined up include live music, food, games, kayaking, and much more. On Wednesday, Oct. 10 the Kovens Center at BBC will be transformed into the LXV Lounge, where DJ Irie and DJ Skribble will be playing the music of the night.
“We wanted to have a club/lounge feel to tie it back to Miami’s nightlife,” said Fatta.
Tickets are available online at hc.fiu.edu. Doors open at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, FIU will be looking for the most talented Panthers with Panthers Got Talent. If you can sing, dance, tell a joke, or recite a limerick on a bed of nails while on fire, this is for you.
Panthers Got talent will take place at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 will be the NPHC Stepshow. The NPHC Stepshow will showcase different step teams and see who is the best of the best.
The NPHC Stepshow will also be at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 will be the closing ceremonies with the Homecoming Parade, which will begin in Lot 3 and end in Lot 6, the game tailgate in Lot 6, and our homecoming game (FIU vs. Middle Tennessee).
“I’m looking forward to it since it is my last year,” says senior Alex Estrada, physical therapy major. “It’s the spirit of the week that I like, and it shows what it means to be an FIU student.”
