SEAS to host lecture on “Sustainability, Trans-Disciplinarity, and the Arts.”

Most people know the concept of “environmentalism” and “sustainability,” but the transition from the descriptive understanding to the conceptual understanding is what makes the difference between action and inaction.

On August 21, artist, author, scholar, and “intersectionist” Joe Zammit-Lucia will discuss how words acquire meaning in the SEAS event “Sustainability, Trans-Disciplinarity, and the Arts.”

The lecture will introduce the need to redefine environmentalism as a way for humanity to coexist with nature rather than a struggle between the two in order to incite change for the simultaneous betterment of society and the planet.

At the event, Dr. Zammit-Lucia will introduce the idea of a new type of environmental art that changes the meaning of environmentalism from the activist form, with one target audience, to something for an entire society to take interest in, with a universal advantage.

The event will take place in GC Room 140 at 7pm, this Tuesday.
