FIU suffered a heart breaker as they fell to Eastern Carolina University 2-1 in overtime. It was the Panther’s third straight overtime game and the fourth straight game FIU trails in the first half.

Lexi Harring of ECU scored the first goal of the contest, converting a corner kick in the 10th minute to give her Pirates the early lead. The goal was Harring’s first of the season and she benefited from chaos in the box as she sent the ball into the far left post.

Late in the 43rd minute and nearly a minute left in the half, freshman Alyssa Robinson scored her first goal of her FIU career. She converted a great feed from senior Nicole DiPerna who battled the ball away from ECU goalkeeper Saundra Baron.

Coming out of halftime tied, the Panthers completely dominated the game in shot attempts. FIU had a season high 20 shots in the game compared to the ECU’s six. The Pirates only managed one shot in the second half.

Regulation finished knotted at 1 as the Panthers went into overtime. In the fourth overtime minute Stephanie Seagrave scored the gamming winning goal. Redshirt junior Paula Zuluaga made an aggressive play for the ball, but  nearly missed it as the ball went into the back of the net.,

Despite the Panthers most aggressive game of the season and a good defensive performance only allowing 6 shots, they took a loss knocking them out of first place in the conference USA eastern division.

Kim Lopez had a great outing for the Panthers with five shots in the game and one shot short of her career high with 6.

They look to bounce on Sunday October, 20th against the Rice Owls as the Panthers continue with their Alumnae Weekend.
