Five Panthers reached double-figures in a game where they never trailed, as the men’s basketball team defeated UTSA, 80-72.
The Panthers (13-12, 5-5 C-USA) were led by redshirt junior Dennis Mavin who finished the night with 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting. Senior Tymell Murphy (13), redshirt senior Rakeem Buckles (12), freshman Dominique Williams (11) and redshirt sophomore Cody Mann (10) also contributed in the win.
Buckles finished with a team-high 10 rebounds, his 11th double-double of the season.
Junior Marco Porcher Jimenez started the night converting his first of three 3-pointers in the first half, his only points of the night.
With a 38-32 lead at the half, the Panthers outscored the Roadrunners 42-40 in the second half while shooting 52 percent and holding their opponent to just 36.1 percent.
In the game, the Panthers shot 48.2 percent and 38.1 percent from behind the arc. Defense was also a strong suit for the team, as they held the Roadrunners to 39.7 percent from the floor and just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc. They also scored 14 points off 13 UTSA turnovers.
The win snapped a three-game road losing streak for the Panthers.
The Panthers continue on the road with a trip to El Paso, Texas to face the UTEP Miners, Saturday.
