Spring has arrived with much needed leisure days full of the beach and pool. FIUSM caught up with local stylist Hayley Mitchell of Style By Hayley (http://stylebyhayley.com/) to get a list of tips and tricks on how to dress the part.

“This season is all about festival fashion. Think Coachella and Lollapalooza,” Mitchell said.

Hayley’s list:

  1. Crop tops!

  2. Pops of yellow, neons and more pinks than Crayola can make names for.

  3. Metallics will become neutrals and carry your looks from day to night.

  4. Graphic prints used by designers like McGinn, Elizabeth & James and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

  5. Going into this festival season we are going to see jackets but now in much lighter materials.

  6. Athletically structured neoprene.

  7. Light lace fashions — designers who excel in this trend are Alexander Wang, Carven and Tibi.

  8. Heavily embellished sunglasses decorated with gold encrusted flowers, crushed velvet, whatever. It is in the accessories where individual style can truly be seen!

  9. Fringe is still in.

“Less is more. T-shirts and shorts—it is much too hot for anything else! It’s all about good skin and sunblock,” says Miami model Johanna Da Ru.

And what trends to steer clear of?

“Girls should try to avoid wearing see-through cover ups to go out. Or fishnets and short skirts. Keep fishnets for costumes,” said Ashley Garcia of Neiman Marcus in Merrick Park.
