The first day of Summer term marks the beginning of a new point rewards system available to students at the University.
Starting on May 12, the Office of Business Services is offering a new rewards program to help revamp student use of the FIU One Card.
The goal is the make the FIU One Card more valuable to students, according to Nancy Cadavid, assistant director of the FIU One Card office.
The program consists of accumulating points per purchase with the card, with the exception of book advances and meal plans; however, book advance transfer funds are eligible for points, according to the business services website.
The points, which students can check online on a daily basis, are posted on the shop.fiu.edu website. Points will be available within the next day of purchase, according to the Office of Business Services.
Students will receive one point for every $1 spent at Pollo Tropical, Subway, Tropical Smoothie, Chili’s Too, POD Markets, Sushi Maki, Almazar, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Faculty Club, Dunkin Donuts, Bustelo, Moes, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Einsteins Bros Bagels, The Fresh Food Company, Freshens, Miros, Papa John’s, Salad Creations, GrilleWorks at Biscayne Bay Campus and La Focaccia in the Engineering Center.
Students will also receive one point for every $1 spent at Barnes & Noble, Recharge U and Barnes & Noble Café.
Students will receive two points for every $1 spent at Santi’s Hair & Nail Salon, Ricoh, and Golden Touch Barbershop.
Lastly, students will receive 25 points for the one-time link to FIU One Card at Wells Fargo.
There are six reward levels depending on the number of points accumulated, ranging from 750 points at level 1 to 5000 points at level 6. Each level has a set prize reward.

They have the option of of choosing between a PantherDining gift card for any restaurant on campus, with the exception of the Barnes and Noble café and Recharge U, or a Barnes and Noble gift card for the bookstore on either campus and café, as well as Recharge U.[/tab]
[tab title=”Level 3″]At Level 3, with 1500 points, students receive a $50 gift card for PantherDining for any dining location on campus, excluding Recharge U and the Barnes & Noble Café.[/tab]
[tab title=”Level 4″]At level 4, with 2000 points, students are eligible to receive a Hewlett Packard Inkjet Multi-function Printer Model # DJ 2540 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner and Copier. [/tab]
[tab title=”Level 5″]At level 5, with 2500 points, students are eligible to receive an iHome – iBT4 Boombox.[/tab]
[tab title=”Level 6″]At level 6, with 5000 points, students are eligible to receive either a 32GB iPad Mini or a 32GB Windows Surface.[/tab][/tabgroup]
In the case of returns or refunds, the points earned from the purchases will be deducted from the student’s total point balance.
Students can redeem their rewards at the FIU One Card office in PG 1-100 by showing their card during their business hours.
The points expire every year at the end of Spring semester.
On the second Thursday of May each year, the points will stop accumulating, and expire on the following Saturday each year, according to the business services website.
