UPDATE: Armed Assailant on University grounds

-BREAKING : The University’s emergency alert system sent out text messages, phone calls and emails to the all students warning of an armed assailant on or near University grounds at approximately 2:00-2:15 a.m. on Tuesday June 3.

The alerts told recipients to seek shelter immediately.

UPDATE: At 3:02 a.m the University sent out an “all clear” alert to it’s recipients. The tweets reports that Miami Dade Police warned of a robbery at a Walgreens in which the suspect fled to the Modesto Maidique Campus. The tweet then reads that was neither a robbery at a Walgreens  nor that an assilant had entered  MMC campus.

According to University police chief Alexander Casas, Miami-Dade Police responded to an armed robbery call at the Walgreens immediately east of campus at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

“Our units responded to assist Miami-Dade,” said Casas.The University alert system sent out alerts within a minute of the reported incident to students, facutly and staff which included emails, phone calls, texts and alerts over VoIP phones inside all buildings. “Every which way we can reach people we do.”
