Rhys Williams/ Sports Director
With the United States out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, I am mostly done with the game of soccer until not only the championship match this season but also for the next few years.
I am not the most avid soccer fan, nor do I believe that I will ever be and following the 2-1 loss of the US Men’s National Team against Belgium on July 1, I think that the only soccer I will watch – outside of the FIU Panthers men and women’s team – for the next three years and 11 months before the next World Cup will be the final match of this year’s World Cup.
I get that it is the world’s sport to some people but it isn’t the sport for the USA. In my opinion it is football, followed by baseball and basketball with a tie and soccer coming in at fourth place.
I will keep myself updated on what happens in the coming matches but I doubt that I won’t be multitasking during the final anyway, which is something I would never do with final playoff games for sports such as the Super Bowl, or Game 7 of the NBA Finals or World Series.
