Comedy group returns to BBC for Fall Fest performance

Six guys, three rooms and one Honda — that’s where it all started for the comedy group returning to FIU for a second time.

Fall Fest is back and so is Dormtainment, bringing their “broke and famous” troupe to the Biscayne Bay Campus on Thursday Sept. 11, for a live comedy performance in the Wolfe University Center Ballrooms.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free to University students. The show is also open to the community at $2 with student ID and $5 for general admission.

“After learning more about them I believe it’ll be a fantastic show,” said Kevin Camara, Student Programming Council comedy director at BBC, in an email.

The group performed in last year’s SPC Fall Fest, and Camara said SPC invited them back by popular demand.

“There was an excitement buzzing around Dormtainment, and the passion their fans have is a sight to witness,” said Camara. “After all I heard, I knew I had to check them out.”

Amanuel Richards, Cameron Miller, Chaz Miller, Mike Anthony, Rome Green and Tay Dier formed a group in 2009, with a desire to combine their talents as comedians, musicians and video producers in a comedic act reaching out to college campuses.

As college students, the group was also looking for creative ways to help pay off student loans, rent and other expenses, and turned to the Internet to display their talents.

Dormtainment would post videos on YouTube every Sunday, featuring comedic sketches and music videos to help pay bills and possibly make it it to Hollywood.

Today, the group writes, directs and produces videos in Los Angeles and hopes to create and star in their very own TV series one day.

“They truly give their all and care about the craft of comedy,” said Camara.

Camara said Dormtainment’s performance could help inspire students to explore new fields of study, like comedy.

SPC plans to host a Student Comedy Competition in the spring, giving comedic hopefuls a chance to showcase their talent.

“Essentially, I want to open the doors to FIU student comedians and give them a platform to showcase their talents,” said Camara.
