Radio Soul Detailed Fun/Sad Fact: Cool C is known for the 1989 hit “Glamorous Life”. Him and Steady B were apart of the Hilltop Hustlers, and then later C.E.B. (Countin’ Endless Bank). They are from Philadelphia,PA, alongside Three Times Dope and DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince.
While they did not enjoy major success like Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, they did have moderate success in the 1980s. While in the era of C.E.B., they issued one album for Ruffhouse Records (which was then a hip hop subsidiary of Columbia Records).
In January 1996, Steady B and Cool C (whose real names are Warren McGlone and Chris Roney) attempted a bank robbery with Mike Canty. This took place at a PNC bank in Feltonville,PA. Cool C (Roney) shot officer Lauertha Vaird, who the first officer called on the crime scene. She was shot in the abdomen and killed afterwards. Steady B (McGlone) drove the getaway minivan, while Canty held a firearm in front of others in the bank. At the time of her death, Vaird was 43 years old and a single mother of two sons. The bed used during the segment was “Slipped Away” by G Love and Special Sauce. G Love, a prominent blues guitarist, who is also from Philadelphia.
McGlone and Canty are serving life sentences without possibility of parole. Roney is on death row, and is being executed on January 8,2015.
Tune in next week to Radio Soul, exclusively on WRGP: FIU Student Radio. Happy Thanksgiving, and stay on top of the academics, as finals are approaching.
