Panthers fall to Hartford before break

The Panthers continued their long road trip on Sunday with a stop in Connecticut to take on the Hartford University Hawks. The Hawks defeated the Panthers by a score of 82-69. The loss was the second in a row for the Panthers and dropped their record to an even 6-6.

The Panthers got off to a slow start in Connecticut. The Hawks opened the game on a 20-8 run. Most of that scoring came from guard Taylor Dyson. Dyson made five of his first seven shots, including four three-pointers to finish the first half with 14 points . The Panthers were able to narrow the gap at times but ultimately entered halftime down 42-31.

The Panthers were led by senior forward Adrian Diaz. Diaz finished with 29 points on 13 of 14 shooting. He also added eight rebounds. His impressive shooting helped keep the game close. There were only two other Panthers in double figures: guards Dominique Williams and Ray Rodriguez each added 11 points in a losing effort.

Despite the 13-point loss, the Panthers out-shot the Hawks 53% to 45%. The difference for the Hawks was the three-point shot. The y nailed 13 shots from behind the arc to the Panthers’ 5. The Panthers will have a long break for the holidays. Their next game will be on December 28 when they travel to Florida A&M to take on the Rattlers.
