RADIO SOUL DETAILED FUN FACT (Kenny G & Jr. Walker & The All Stars): Kenny G released his take on the Jr. Walker and The All Stars classic hit “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)” back in 1986. This is from his blockbuster LP, Duotones. The same year he ended his partnership with funk/soul master Kashif, and began a journey with Perfection Light productions, which is headed by Narada Michael Walden. While Narada supervised production, Preston Glass was the real production star on the LP. In addition to working with Preston and Narada, Kenny also worked with numerous music heavyweights in his career. The track record includes: Barry White, Jeff Lorber, Lenny Wiliams, Babyface, Johnny Gill, Robin Thicke, Earth Wind and Fire, Yolanda Adams, and of course… the legendary Whitney Houston.

Jr Walker & The All-Stars: Jr Walker and The All Stars were signed to Motown Records in 1964. While they are known for “What Does It Take…”, “Cleo’s Mood”, and more… “Shotgun” was the major hit they became known for. This classic track was used as apart of the opening titles for The Cosby Show from 1989-1991, when the Apollo theatre background was used as part of the theme. BET’s Comic View also featured the song as opening monologue for the show when Cedric the Entertainer and Miss Laura hosted the show in the mid 1990s. Overall, Jr Walker paved the way for many saxophonists. From Kenny G, to Grover Washington, Najee, Dave Koz, Candy Dulfer, Mike Phillips, and more.

“Keep striving for higher grounds, and you will certainly reach the top.” –The New Jack Kid
