A getaway from final exam studies, the Biscayne Bay Campus Life will host a “rave” midnight breakfast.
With music, giveaways, free massages and a photo booth, the event is to provide a fun and engaging way to distress from studies, said Nicole Cozzi, a graduate assistant at the Wolfe University Center.
“Seeing the students enjoying themselves at the event and making memories is invaluable,” said Cozzi.
Cozzi said the midnight breakfast is a tradition at the University for students during final exams week. This semester, the theme word “rave” encourages a fun and bright atmosphere.
She also said that students need to remind themselves that self-care is important and that everyone needs to eat and take breaks in between studying.
According to Kaytien Franco, a student assistant at the WUC, over 200 students are expected to come. She said students should expect to be served upon arrival.
“The food is really, really good. I try to go every year,” said Franco. Franco also said that students should arrive promptly. She said students have run out of food in the past due to large turnouts.
Blondelle Ngouchinghe, a freshman international business management major, said she is excited to take a break from studying at the event.
“My eating habits are not healthy at all, especially when I’m studying late at night,” said Ngouchinghe.
Ngouchinghe said that as a first-year freshman, she has felt overwhelmed with her studies and forgets to eat.
“I think this is a good event to remind students to eat and take breaks so [that] we don’t become so overwhelmed,” she said.
Cozzi said students need to know how to have a balance between studying and finding time to relax.
“Be sure to dedicate time to studying and school work; however, be sure to take of yourself too!” said Cozzi. “Sleep, do some yoga and take breaks. Just drink some coffee and show those finals what you’re made of,” she said.
Franco said students need to remember the slogan, “Work Hard, Play Hard,” for final exam preparations.
“I hate to sound so cliché, but it’s a slogan we use here. It’s always good to take a breather while studying and then focus,” said Franco.
Nilufar Khan, a graduate student, said that for her, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that it gives an energy boost.
“Basically you’re fasting the night before when you slept for all those hours without eating,” said Khan.
According to the Weight-control Information Network, those who skip breakfast disrupt blood sugar balance and trigger bad eating habits throughout the day. They also lose energy that could be used for daily activities.
“I think a breakfast in the night while studying is an awesome idea,” Khan said.
The breakfast will be held in the BBC Panther Square Monday, April 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight.
