Being stressed is a universal feeling, yet everyone stresses out differently.

For some, a slight change in mood and a much faster heart rate is enough to let them know they’re getting anxious or overwhelmed.

When stress creeps into your system it affects the way you think, how you handle difficult situations and can even make you sick by lowering your immune system.

Long-term stress can even rewire the brain, leaving you more vulnerable to anxiety and depression.

But you can reset your body just as quickly as finding out you have two exams and a paper due next week.

No matter what stresses you out or how your body reacts to stress, you want to make sure to catch it quickly. Here are four places on campus that are completely stress free.

FIU Nature Preserve
The nature preserve is located at the MMC campus of FIU. It is a 14-acre environmental area with a jogging path that circles the land of trees, wetlands and tree species. The air smells of fresh pines and mulch. Taking a stroll through a natural and scenic setting can reset your brain. Taking in the sights and sounds of nature can help you relax and fresh air is great to clear the mind.

The Frost Art Museum
If you’re looking for a stress free place to let your mind wander and relax look no further than The Frost Art Museum. Located across from the Blue and Gold Parking Garages is the home of cultural, student and local art. Although small in size, the museum features sculptures, paintings and other art that are sure to distract your mind for at least an hour.

Wellness And Recreational Center
You’re probably thinking that the last thing you want to do when you’re stressed out it to get up and be active. But did you know that exercise reduces the levels of your body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It can also stimulate the production of endorphins. Endorphins are the chemicals in the brain that improve your mood. Take a cardio class, practice some yoga or just sweat for a few minutes on the elliptical. Next time you’re on a study break, release some stress and burn calories while you’re at it.

The Green Library
Yes, it’s probably ironic to think that the place where you spend your days studying and doing homework is considered “stress free” but let’s think about this. The library has several floors each with it’s own set of noise rules and amenities. But if that’s not enough to be stress free you also have a great view of campus from the higher floors and Starbucks downstairs. Grab your favorite tea or coffee drink head upstairs and enjoy a quiet environment and a nice view.

However you choose to spend your days on campus, be sure to find a spot that is your own stress free oasis. Maybe yours is listed above, may it’s not. What are some of your favorite stress-free spots on campus?
