Countdown: Two days ’till takeoff

T-minus two days until my departure.

After so much packing and shopping (I had to get the essentials for my upcoming departure to Italy!), I needed to just relax and sit outside and soak my toes in the EXCRUCIATINGLY warm water (thanks for the 90 degree weather, Miami). I’m excited. I’m terrified. I’m thrilled. I’m nervous.

It’s bittersweet because I’ll be gone for exactly 51 days and I’ve never been away from my family. Nevertheless, it’s exciting. I’ll be learning a new culture, a new language, a new part of history and, before I leave, I need to take this time to sit and reflect about the many opportunities that I’ve received at FIU — especially for this upcoming semester abroad. So far, it has been amazing and, after a whole semester of studying and reflecting on Roman history and art, I think I’m ready for this new adventure. Or, rather, FIU has prepared me for this adventure because — unlike other programs — this program gives me the opportunity to LEARN about the places that I’ll be visiting. It gives me the opportunity to know BEFOREHAND about the Vatican, about the Colosseum, about Pompeii, about the Romans, about the Italian family structures… etc.

It’s thrilling. And I’m excited for my first post away from home. For my first post in Roma!

Great! Take care and learn a lot. The experiences and the things you learn will forever be with you.
    Chao!
