It’s definitely been an adventurous and exciting first day in Rome.
Though the airport was a very long journey, I made it out OK!
When exiting, it was very chaotic because there were thousands of people shouting out names and making you follow them (if someone comes up to you and tells you that they’re a taxi service, don’t believe them. Go straight to the official airport taxi service and they’ll give you one).
The Italians I met were extremely friendly and warned me that, those who aren’t with the airport service, are illegal taxis — so I don’t recommend associating with that.
Another piece of advice? If you’re in a hurry to get somewhere, don’t take the shuttle van (where you share the fare with a couple other people) because you won’t ever get to your destination.
Take me, for instance… I landed at 8:45 a.m. and didn’t get to my apartment rental until 12:45 p.m. I absolutely love my apartment. It’s so cozy and homey and nice. After settling in, it was time to explore…
And, seven minutes after that, I was in love.
With pizza.
We found a small little hole in the wall called La Focaccia. After butchering the Italian language (because who knew that the spanish word “queso” did not exist in the Italian language?), I managed to order my cheese pizza.
And fell in love. Just like that. The tomato sauce is different because it’s less thick, the bread is different, the cheese is different. It was so good and I wish I had better ways to describe the taste because words don’t do it justice.
But the best part? It was fresh. Just out of the oven and they made it right in front me (yes, from scratch).
After stopping by the grocery store (called InCoop), the fatigue started kicking in. But, folks, it is the realest thing there is. Hopefully I’ll have something better to report for tomorrow. Ciao!
