Jonnu Smith ranked 87th best player in College Football

Thursday June 4th,  has created a list of the best football players according to their jersey numbers. Quite frankly, at number 87, Jonnu Smith’s name came up since his jersey number is 87. Because of that, The Junior Tight End made the top 100 list as the 87th best college football player.

How it works is that multiple reporters from different conferences nominated each players depending by their jersey numbers; then make a vote.

Jonnu Smith finished last season leading the team and the nation in receiving yards (710), receptions (61), and touchdowns (8) as a tight end. He started every game last season and was just named Preseason First Team All Conference-USA according to Phil Steele.

The Ocala, Florida native set the school record for tight ends in receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns. His 8th touchdown broke the previous record, which was was held by current NFL player T.Y. Hilton (2008,2011), and Corey McKinnon (2002). His 710 receiving yards ranks seventh of all-time in in a season at FIU. His 61 catches are tied for fourth.

Smith had his 6th longest catch in school history with 75 yards on September 6th against UAB. SI.Com selected him as an All American Honorable Mention, and mid season All-American according to He was also Mackey Tight End player of week in week two last season, and was named to the John Mackey Watch List for best tight ends.
