Ever since coming out with exclusive original shows like “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black”, Netflix has been on a steady rise and gaining a reputation of coming out with various amazing shows. Their latest project, “Sense8”, does not disappoint.

The first season, readily available for binge watching pleasure, follows eight people from all over the world as they discover that they are mentally connected. But it isn’t that they can only read each others minds, they can see, feel, hear and smell whatever the other does. The best part? They can transfer abilities as well.

Of course, because it’s a science fiction drama, there is a corporation that is trying to hunt them all down, but no one knows for what purpose. In fact, the more they uncover about it, the more questions they have.

Let’s start by trying to explain how beautifully shot this show was. The cinematography was breathtaking as the directors had to make eight different locations possible including South Korea, Kenya, Iceland, London and Mexico. Long picturesque shots of mountains and cities fill the screen with every episode.

The cast is top notch in terms of acting as well as diversity. The show does an exemplary job of talking about gender, color and ultimately what it means to be a human in this world. With an uncanny ability to discuss the complicated mechanism that is the human condition, the show breaks through the monotony that has been prevalent in television for decades and reminds us that the people and thing we see and experience on our day to day basis is not the only way of life.

There are heartbreaking scenes in which characters discuss the internal and external hate that they have received for being transgender and gay, there is talk of poverty, spirituality, love and the brutality that people can be faced with due to their circumstances at birth or due to the things that they must do to survive.

All of the episodes are filled with suspense and heart pumping action as there seems to be a death threat looming over every character regardless of whether they’re aware of the organization that is coming after them or not.

The end of the first season had a beautiful panoramic shot and seemed to end on an uplifting note, but of course, we’re not going to fall for that.

Season 2 is in the works and if it’s anything like the first, we’re in for an amazing ride.
