For 31 years since 1984, the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship has addressed the underrepresentation of Hispanic and African American faculty by supporting them in funding their education for a Ph. D (Doctor of Philosophy degree) in many Colleges and Universities in Florida.

This year, the application is due on January 15th, 2016 and interested students are encouraged to apply by the deadline. The general eligibility includes citizenship, Ph.D. degree seeking, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University and Hispanic, full time student status, or African American background.

According to the Florida Education Grant website, the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship awards up to 50 fellowships to students at participating universities annually. Award recipients are eligible to receive up to $22, 000 per year. During the first three years, scholars will receive $12,000 from the Florida Education Grant and $10, 000 from University of Graduate School. The next two additional years of funding will be sponsored by the fellow’s graduate program.

The award sums up to five years of funding support via a tuition waiver and health insurance timeline according to the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work (RSCPHSW) Professional Opportunities.

For the candidates, the award notification will come out around late April of 2016. The awards will be awarded during Fall semesters only. The applications can be found online at http://www.fefonline.org/mdfapply/
