Legendary pop singer and songwriter Prince was found dead at his home in Chanhassen, Missouri, Thursday, April 21. He was 57 years old.
Just after 10 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency call from the Paisley Park estate. As of now, cause of death hasn’t been released, but the investigation is still ongoing. His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, was the one to release the information, and has previously said that Prince had been fighting the flu.
He was born as Prince Rogers Nelson June 7, 1958, and made his mark on the world as an iconic pop artist and songwriter, known for songs like “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Little Red Corvette.” A major pop culture phenomenon in the 1980’s, he won Academy Awards and album sales with 1984’s film “Purple Rain,” and has performed for the Super Bowl halftime show.
He’d been known to largely record his music all himself, instruments and vocals. Culturally, he released many seductive songs in his career, but would also make an effort to spread social awareness with his music. He set the standard for musical promiscuity and cultural appreciation.
