FIU has had a very rocky season, but the team was able to pick it back up against The University of Alabama at Birmingham to have a chance to return back to the Conference USA Tournament.
After losing the series against Rice University, FIU came back alive to sweep UAB last weekend. The series win put the Panthers at seventh in the C-USA standings, and now the team needs only one win this weekend or a loss by UAB for its final series.
“It’s a big series and a big thing to be a part of,” junior infielder Nick Day said. “We just got to go in and play the game that we love.”
Day has never been to the C-USA tournament, but he is confident that he and the Panthers can get there to grab another championship under their belts.
“We’re playing as a team finally, and that’s what we needed to do all year,” Day said.
The Panthers will host a three-game set against Southern Mississippi University starting on Thursday, May 19 with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
