Football season is approaching and with some new talent added to the roster and changes within coaching staff, this fresh start for the Panthers gives the team a chance to show everyone what they are made of.
On Sept. 1, the Panthers will kick off the season playing against the University of Indiana Hoosiers, a team they lost to last season.
The final score was 36-22 after a late pick-six was thrown by Alex McGough, giving the Hoosiers an opportunity to take home the win. The Panthers finished last season with five wins and seven losses.
This season, however, will be different. Not only will FIU have the opportunity to defeat Indiana at home, but it will be televised on ESPNU for fans to watch.
Ben Raphel, a journalist for the Hoosiers, wrote an article saying that Indiana will come out on top against the Panthers again. He also referred to the team as the “Golden Panthers,” a name that has been changed since 2011.
This type of doubt is exactly what the Panthers need as motivation to improve their performance and get some recognition.
Years have gone by, and the Panthers are still being overlooked and underestimated. That being said, Head Coach Ron Turner and his coaching staff have a lot on their plate this upcoming fall, as they will lead the charge to, possibly, the turning point of FIU fandom.
