The Wellness and Recreation Center at the Modesto Maidique campus is offering bike riding events, workshops and services to students in collaboration with FIU’s bike shop.
Open to all students, the shop allows students to purchase, service or tune their bike for a low cost. They also host events to get students involved including community bike rides around FIU and the Sweetwater area, and workshops where students can learn about basic bike maintenance.
“It’s a really good opportunity because we understand that maintenance can get expensive, and this gives students the chance to take care of their bike, get involved in biking activities, all while on a college budget,” said Anthony Elibert, senior at FIU and employee at the bike shop.
As a cycling enthusiast, Elibert believes that in addition to staying active, taking advantage of the services offered by the bike shop can help students find a passion in cycling.
“I decided to work here because I just finished biking 2,700 miles from California to Louisiana, and I wanted to continue my love for biking here at school,” said Elibert.
The bike shop is located right behind Panther Garage and is open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
