Following two losses in the past week, the women’s volleyball team is now 6-9 on the season.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Panthers fell to Florida Gulf Coast University after losing three of four matches. The Panthers started the match strong, coming back from a 0-5 deficit to defeat FGCU 25-23 in the first set. They could not score another win, losing the second set 14-25 and the last two sets 20-25 to the Eagles.
Senior Katie Hogan led the team with 13 kills and eight digs, while junior Jennifer Ene finished with 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage. Junior Mariana De Paula Silva added 35 assists as well as four digs.
The match against the Eagles was the Panther’s last nonconference game of the season.
Next in the two-match travel series was their first conference game against the University of North Texas on Saturday, Sept. 25. In this match, the Panthers lost the first three of four games, eliminating them from the fourth set of the match with set scores of 21-25, 16-25 and 14-2.
Hogan finished with 11 kills and four digs, junior Brianna Gogins added nine kills and three blocks, while redshirt freshman Lina Bernier contributed 12 digs.
The team will be back at home for their next game Friday, Sept. 30, Florida Atlantic University Owls.
