The volleyball team came back down to South Florida for a couple of games at home this past weekend, where they split the bill, losing 1-3 to Marshall and winning against Louisiana Tech 3-1. The team now stands at 8-15 for the season and 2-7 in Conference USA play.

On Friday, Oct. 21, the Panthers came back home to play their first game on the Lime Court at FIU Arena in almost two weeks for a rematch with the 17-6, (6-2 in C-USA), Marshall Thundering Herd, who got the best of FIU just 10 days before in Huntington, West Virginia.

Marshall once again bested FIU. This time, FIU lost 1-3, (20-25, 26-24, 18-25, 24-26). Junior Jennifer Ene put together perhaps her best performance of the season with her 20 kills and .400 attack percentage to go along with her three blocks and two digs. Senior Katie Hogan added nine kills, 10 digs and an ace while redshirt freshman Lina Bernier contributed with 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Also, Junior Mariana De Paula Silva added 48 assists, 10 digs, four blocks and an ace.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the Panthers faced the 10-15, (1-8 in C-USA), Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, where the Panthers came out on top 3-1, (25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17). The Panthers outplayed the Bulldogs in virtually every aspect, including points, assists, kills, digs, aces and blocks.

FIU’s 25-15 victory in the first set was their largest set victory all season. Following Jennifer Ene’s great performance against Marshall, Katie Hogan had what was perhaps the most impressive individual performance for FIU Volleyball all season in this game with her 24 kills, nine digs with a .488 attack percentage as well as three blocks. Junior Taija Thomas contributed with 15 kills, six digs and a .429 attack percentage. Jennifer Ene added 13 kills on a .379 attack percentage while Lina Bernier added seven kills and eight digs.

FIU Volleyball will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. for their rematch against the 12-10, (7-1 in C-USA), Owls of Florida Atlantic University, who defeated the Panthers 3-0 on Sept. 30.
