Fitness class gives you ‘the workout of your life’

Talking about a class that lives up to its name, 3D Sweat will have you sweating relentlessly, and when you think you are done, you will sweat some more.

Offered at the Biscayne Bay Campus Wellness and Recreation Center on Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m., 3D Sweat is an intense and fast-paced class that offers “the workout of your life,” according to instructor Daniel Triche.

Created three years ago at FIU, the class presents a high-intensity workout alongside the latest hip-hop and Top 40 beats. With the energizing music pumping in the background, Triche guides students through a physically challenging but gratifying class.

Triche, who is completing his master’s degree in dietetics and nutrition, masterfully blends techniques such as time under tension, drop sets, plyometrics and interval training to effectively target muscles and burn away fat in a short amount of time.

The class incorporates multiple strategies to transform the body, both physically and mentally. The alternating routines prevent your body from hitting plateaus, so progress continues along with new creative ways to sweat. Even when your body wishes to quit, Triche’s motivating and infectious personality encourages students to keep trying.

“I tell students I want 120% effort,” he told FIUSM, “so they can kick in that little bit extra to take their workout to the next level.”

The routines vary every week, alternating between targeting the upper body, lower body, abs and core. For instance, a core and cardio circuit one week might include planks, different variations of crunches, leg raises and stairs exercises.

“Every instructor is different,” said Triche, “but my students keep coming back because I find a way to get into their mindsets, push them and help them reach places they didn’t think they could get.”

Nan Yao, a graduate student studying marine biology, agreed.

“School brings a lot of pressure, and exercise makes you feel great,” Yao said. “Although this class is difficult, it actually relaxes you and takes your mind off the stress.”

In January 2017, the class will start from the ground up, making it the ideal time for students of all skill and fitness levels to join. If you want to push yourself and make friends in a motivating environment, this class will provide that. Triche’s drill sergeant demeanor will help you power through the physical and mental walls that you’ve previously built, and lead you on a pathway to a healthier, happier you instead.

“I just love seeing people transform their bodies,” said Triche. “Just come and try it. I am not crazy. Well, maybe just a little bit.”
