While students don’t live the same lives, one common denominator in everyone’s life is to eat food. And to accommodate different eating habits, FIU offers various eating options at their campuses.
But despite variety, Leonela Chiriboga, a junior studying education, feels that pricing should be more reasonable.
“FIU has a great variety of food choices,” she said. “Although they have popular food chains on campus, they can be a little overpriced for college students. Because of my erratic work schedule, my eating habits tend to be unhealthy when I’m not eating home-cooked meals. I tend to end up stopping by a fast-food chain while on the way to FIU or after having left FIU.”
Some students agreed, saying they don’t purchase food from FIU because it is too expensive.
“I’m at FIU from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m.; I eat every 3 hours,” Michelle Rodriguez, a junior studying psychology said. “I usually bring my own food to heat up on campus because I like to eat healthy, and even though there is food here that is healthy, it’s expensive.”
For others, the issue with consistently purchasing food on campus is not having enough time to wait in line at different restaurants, as well as having a limited amount of locations to heat food brought from home.
“While I’m at FIU, I usually bring my own food because I don’t have the time to run across and wait in line to get my food,” Sarah Rodriguez, a senior majoring in recreation and sports management, said. “At times bringing my food is a hassle too because of trying to use the microwaves to heat up my food. There are only a few places with microwaves and are difficult to access.”
