Ahead of conference, the women’s golf team placed third at the Web.com Intercollegiate tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

The Panthers played two rounds on Monday, and the last round was scheduled to be played Tuesday but was canceled due to a storm in the area.

Toward the end of the second round on Monday, delays occurred due to lightning. Players were forced to go inside twice.

FIU improved in the second round by a 14-stroke difference, compared to the first round.

Head coach Joseph Vogel, found the course to be great, but said the conditions were tough.

“It was really windy,” he said, “with more than 20 miles-per-hour winds blowing.”

Senior Camila Serrano and Katerina Krasova finished the tournament in the top 10. Serrano placed second, while Krasova tied for eighth. For Serrano, this was her third second-place of the season.

The Panthers will try and carry the momentum earned in Ponte Verda Beach into conference, which will take place April 17-19.

“This proves to us that we are able to shoot really good rounds as a team and individuals, in order to win conference, which is the main goal,” Serrano said.

Coach Vogel praises Serrano’s performance as “remarkable” under the circumstances in which the rounds were played.

The Women’s Golf team finishes the regular season with a record of 79-35.
