The (2-4) men’s basketball team will return to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, Wednesday night, as the team faces off against the (7-3) Florida National Conquistadors at 7 p.m. This matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between FIU and Florida National.
Most recently, the Panthers suffered a tough 78-61 loss to the 2017 Final Four participant South Carolina Gamecocks. FIU fought back multiple times in the contest, however were inevitably overwhelmed by the Gamecocks’ offense and defense.
FIU is led by junior forward Eric Lockett, who is averaging 17.2 points on 48% shooting and 7.0 rebounds per game, while also contributing on defense with 2.3 steals and one block per game.
Sophomore guard Trejon Jacob has also contributed in his first season with FIU, averaging 15.3 points on 45% shooting and 4.5 rebounds. Starting point guard Brian Beard Jr. has also been a force on the court, averaging 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and one steal per game.
The Florida National Conquistadors are members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, also known as USCAA.
The Conquistadors will be led by senior guard Terence Johnson, who is averaging 15 points, four rebounds and two assists per game. Senior guard Antonio Sims is another top contributors for Florida National. Sims is averaging 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game
FIU is one of the only division one opponents for the Conquistadors this season. Florida National will also go against Jacksonville, Stetson, and North Florida
Following their game against the Conquistadors, FIU will close out their three-game home stand on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., when they face off against South Alabama.
