Students came together to share cultures, food and perspectives this November. Take a look back at the month through the lens of PantherNOW photographers.
On Nov. 1, BBC hosted Roary’s Birthday Bash to celebrate our mascot’s special day as part of Homecoming week. The event included a student bake-off and other party games.
BBC participated in their own university-wide tradition when they hosted a Trail of the Torch event on Nov. 2.

The Operational and Strategic Arts Symposium was hosted by the U.S. Army ROTC Southern Strike Battalion at FIU and the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy on Nov. 2. The event featured speeches by senior military officers and experts on leadership and global engagement policy.

Student Media hosted a forum on Nov. 6 to mark the one-year anniversary of the 2016 presidential election. At the forum, panelists discussed the state of areas like foreign policy and free speech after one year of the Trump administration.

On Nov. 9, students organized a walk-out and protest to push for a clean DACA act. The Deferred Action for for Childhood Arrivals legislation has been a center of national attention as the Trump administration considers amending or repealing it. Students at the protest shared their personal connections to DACA and marched across campus.

The School of Architecture hosted the 28th Annual Walk on Water event on Nov. 9. Architecture students from FIU and beyond raced across the Green Library Lake in student-made floatable shoes. FIU Architecture students Juan Vega and Ana Moreno won first place and broke the event’s previous record, finishing the race in one minute and two seconds — one second faster than the old record — winning $2,000.

The third annual FIU Language Day on Nov. 3 across multiple locations at MMC. Students participated in activities to share culture, food and languages.
The final event of Homecoming Week, the Homecoming parade and game, brought FIU together on Nov. 4. The parade featured community members, students, University departments and Grand Marshal Richard Blanco. FIU would go on to win the Homecoming game against UTSA.
The International Student Club hosted the fifth annual International Student World Fair on Nov. 15. The fair included performances from students showcasing their cultures, food samples and tabling from various cultural clubs.
To mark Veterans Day, FIU unveiled the Felsburg Veterans Plaza at MMC on Nov. 11. Paul Michael Felsburg was a criminal justice major, an FIU student-athlete and a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps who died serving in the second Gulf War.
The Residence Hall Association hosted a Fall Feast on Nov. 22 to celebrate Thanksgiving.
As part of the university’s United Way fundraiser, students and faculty participated in a bake-off fundraiser at BBC on Nov. 27. The winner was 2016 champ, Debaro Huyler.
FIU Football became bowl-eligible for the third time in program history following their 14-7 victory over UTSA on Nov. 4.
