Democrat Doug Jones’ victory is a boost for Democrats

Recently, Democrat Doug Jones won a highly controversial special-election for Alabama Senator, beating opponent Roy Moore by a very small percentile.

Many news outlets have reported that it is very possible that the voters who made that key difference were African-American women.

During the campaign trail, practically all of America became involved and eager for election night when allegations of sexual misconduct against Moore came to light.

Although urged to resign multiple times, he denied these allegations and played the victim to a smear campaign, leaving the women whom he assaulted to be shamed and made to look guilty by a number of his supporters.

The Republican National Committee was somehow able to make themselves look worse than Moore when they decided re-endorse him after pulling their fundraising and urging him to withdraw from the race.

Throughout the campaign, President Donald Trump also made it clear to his millions of twitter followers that he chose to ignore morality by sending out a series of tweets calling Jones a “puppet” and urging Alabama voters to vote Republican.

This was not surprising, however, due to the fact that Trump is currently playing the victim to allegations against himself.

However, none of these tactics worked, and it appears that common sense finally prevailed.

The big win for Democrats in Alabama, which has not elected a Democrat for senator since 2006,  poses a big threat to Republicans in the Senate, mainly because Democrats are slowly closing the margin that makes Republicans a majority.

Democrats are now faced with a big challenge. With tax reform, healthcare reform and other important measures on the table, it is crucial for them to work together and oppose legislation that will only benefit the wealthy conservative population.

This victory may feel great at a time where it feels like the country is going down the drain, but it is important to realize that there is still a lot of work to be done.
