Students discuss their new semester resolutions

As a new year brings new resolutions, a new semester with new challenges is upon panthers, some of which are excited and ready to face their classes head on.

Marielly Carlin, a freshman biology major, is one such panther and said that the new semester is bringing her many opportunities to further her pursuit of knowledge.

“I’m actually pretty excited about this semester because I enjoy studying and learning new things,” she said. Perez is looking forward to taking General Biology II.

Miguel Corral, a sophomore marine biology major, is excited to reunite with friends now that winter break is over and is looking forward to making new ones.

Corral, however, isn’t feeling too enthused about one of his classes: Pre-Calculus.

“I’m definitely not looking forward to taking pre-cal because of how confusing it’s going to be,” he said.

Many students may feel similarly about the new semester. For those, Carlin and Corral have some advice.

Carlin urged her peers to become familiar with and disciplined in the realm of time management.

“Some advice for incoming freshmen or fellow students would be to organize themselves and make a schedule for everything in order to avoid being stressed,” she said.

Corral on the other hand, believes it would be beneficial for freshmen to approach their education with maturity.

“My advice would be to take everything a little more seriously because you’re going to be held to a higher standard and be held a lot more accountable for everything,” Corral said.

Carlin is hoping to make some changes this year, such as learning to manage her stress during the semester.

“My resolution this new year is to be more calm and positive, to not be stressed out as much basically,” she said.

In her commitment to wellness, Carlin’s dedication to her studies remains fixed.

“I also want to get straight A’s this semester and got to the gym every day to stick to my healthy lifestyle this time around,” she said.
