On Thursday, Feb. 15, FIU hosted their annual Uproar concert at the University’s soccer stadium.

Before the event began, there was already a flood of students lining up to enter the stadium. With advertisements around the campus and promotions on social media, students had been anticipating Uproar for some time.

This year, Uproar hosted Jesse McCartney, The Ying Yang Twins, and A-Trak, along with some other local musicians including some FIU students.

This isn’t the only year that the Student Programming Council has brought major stars to perform at Uproar. In the past, the University has hosted Jessie J, Mike Posner, MKTO, and many others.

Kirsten Cavarcas, a junior and digital marketing major, was particularly excited for Jesse McCartney.  “I’m actually really excited to see Jesse Mccartney. It’s really cool how they have him and they brought other popular people.”

She continued to explain how Uproar was more than she thought it’d be, offering different venues like clubs, food, and games to the students. “It’s a lot more than I expected, they have booths and other stuff that make it more than just a concert.”

There was a music festival style to Uproar that attracted students. Cavarcas mentioned this and even noted it had a Coachella vibe to it. Some booths were face painting and making flower crowns to match the noticeable festival scene.

Some students went for more than just the big names like McCartney. Giovani Charia, an international business sophomore, and Sarah Gandrews, a freshman in biology, went to support their friend playing at Uproar, Cesar Santalo.

“Cesar Santalo is actually one of my brothers in my fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, so I came to show support,” said Charia.

Leslie Gonzales, a junior in recreational therapy, felt especially proud to be an FIU student after attending Uproar. She also mentioned how much she liked the atmosphere of the event.

“It did make me proud to be an FIU student. It’s great to see how our school can host an event like Uproar and how so many people came out to it,” said Gonzales. “My favorite part of the event was the many artists they had. My favorite being Jesse McCartney. I also liked the many different booths they had and the whole atmosphere in general.”

With a long line up and a night full of festivities, Uproar was a busy event.

When leaving the event, music still buzzing inside, one could see the silhouette of the Roary statue, FIU’s mascot, leaving each student with a bit of Panther pride as they exited the stadium.
