The Roar Miami staff presents: Spring break 2018 singles review

In no particular order, The Roar staff is giving you the best singles of 2018.

“Bikini” by Caroline Rose: This track from Caroline Rose’s stunning sophomoric power pop suite titled “LONER” is a surf-rock, beach-party-themed dancer. Led by a brightly buzzing organ and paired with lead guitar and thundering drums, Rose sings sardonic but sweetly a’la Courtney Barnett in a subtle takedown of commodified sexisim in the media.
Politics aside, this song is simply too much fun to ignore. (Evan)

“Off and On” by SALES: SALES champions the art of minimalist guitar pop, driving its sound with humble instrumentation. On “Off and On,” the Orlando duo conjures up a daydream: As Lauren Morgan ponders a passing relationship over somber guitars, Jordan Shih’s playful beats follow through, making the song as danceable as it is dreamy. While it isn’t quite a spring break banger, it is a much needed breather. (Carina)

“Glide (feat.Tkay Maidza)” by Hoodboi: Hoodboi gives us a mixture of emotions in one single. The song casually combines hip hop, R&B and house giving us the ability to dance freely and be empowered simultaneously. He takes music to a new futuristic direction making this perfect for Spring Break as it lets one vibe smoothly and happily. (Andreina)

“Sticky” by Ravyn Lenae: R&B is making a comeback this year with this steamy new single by up-and-coming artist, Ravyn Lenae. The Chicago native is bringing us the ‘90s with a modern twist. A great record to jam out to while getting ready for a night out with friends. Lenae’s funky voice will literally follow you throughout the night and you will catch yourself singing the chorus out loud. (Harold Daniel)
