A super hyped crowd, live performances, dance battles, and the baddest DJs spinning the best jams up-to-date were the most memorable highlights of FIU’s Bayfest at BBC.
While the party started, the performers from SPC’s Blaze the Stage were warming up the crowd.
“I enjoyed all the performers from the Blaze the Stage talent show. It was their performances that I really enjoyed the most,” says Lance Jackson, a Junior majoring in International Business.
The audience grew from a sparse group of people into a full blown army in a matter of minutes, and this army was playing no games as it was ready for the show it was promised.
Although Shenseea is only 21-years-old, this Jamaican dancehall performer and deejay was hands down the best entertainer I’ve ever seen live, and the best of the night. Her presence was as forceful and commanding as her lyrics. She walked across the stage like she’d done it a thousand times, and once that got old, she jumped off and almost got into the crowd. Shenseea came to Bayfest with a game plan: have everyone in the facility remember her name, and I believed that mission was accomplished.
When Ball Greezy made his entrance, screams and excitement made it difficult to hear him for a few seconds. It wasn’t until he was halfway through the first song that could finally be heard. But he didn’t mind. In fact, he aloud for the crowd to sing a few of his bars while he stood back, impressed.
The final act of the night, Jacquees, gave a quick shout out to singer/rapper Dej Loaf, who featured on Jacquees’ “At The Club”. It was her birthday a day before, and he asked the audience to show her some love.
Jacquees performed until he was dripping in sweat. In every move, ladies were losing it. Every melody he sung was immediately drowned out by cries from every loyal fan who extended their arms out in an attempt to touch him. Although he wasn’t my favorite performer, he was definitely the crowd’s pick and the main attraction.
Just when he began wrapping things up, Jacquees brought out surprise guess rapper Nelly, and had the whole crowd shook!
“I like Jacquees’ performance the most because he performed some of my favorite songs and I knew more of his music,” says Angel Rogers, a Freshman majoring in Public Relations who felt like the show was everything she thought it would be.
So if you didn’t know just how lit Bayfest was, now you do. See you next year?
