The two left turn lanes from westbound Southwest Eighth Street to the ramp accessing the southbound Turnpike are temporarily closed for intersection reconstruction, according to a Florida Turnpike representative.
The reconstruction is part of an ongoing $112 million project to widen the Florida’s Turnpike between Bird Road and the Dolphin Expressway, according to an email sent to Student Media by Fiorella Teodista, a public information officer for the Florida Turnpike.
The lanes, which closed at 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, are expected to reopen in summer 2018, according to an FDOT-Florida Turnpike traffic advisory, to give crews enough time to reconstruct the intersection.
The southbound Turnpike ramp will still be accessible to motorists from eastbound Eighth Street, the press release states.
And for those wanting to enter the southbound Turnpike, the University recommends using Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest 117th Avenue to Bird Road and then going west to access the southbound Turnpike. See map below for alternate routes:
