Cardi B deletes her Instagram following Azealia Banks backlash

Azealia Banks is known for notoriously speaking her mind. The singer takes to Twitter to express her pessimistic opinion on fellow female performers—Remy Ma, Iggy Azalea, Rihanna, Rita Ora and Beyonce just to name a few

Some of her most infamous tweets tend to mention thoughts involving the perception of black women in media. When it comes to race, Banks attempts to quell any form of racism towards black women in the industry, yet baits it when criticizing said artists.

So there was no surprise when she was asked if she had any problems with Cardi during her latest interview on Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club radio show.

She fired away and called her an “illiterate, untalented rat” and a “caricature of a black woman.” She explained if her own grammar and speech was that bad, she would be talked down upon, or if Nicki Minaj spoke similar to Cardi B, she would be judged as well.

“Just because I mix a few words up, forget to use commas or misspell a few words doesn’t make me illiterate and doesn’t make me stupid,” said Cardi B on Instagram over Banks’ comments. “And because I laugh a little harder or talk a little louder doesn’t make me a caricature!”

Cardi also explained in an Instagram post that she never set out to be a role model and people chose to follow her and listen to her music. The rapper also stated that her fame was achieved because people wanted to listen to her and the music she was putting out.

Shortly after the posts towards Banks, Cardi deleted her Instagram.

Each artists is who they set out to be, and Cardi B is a creative artist who is unafraid to express her opinions and feelings, which people tend to judge her for.

Nowadays, female rappers are constantly pitted against each other. It’s an ongoing argument pinpointing the art of performing versus the art of creating lyrics and really putting out content, which then creates sides.

Female artists are constantly criticized against one another. The music industry brings a sense of competition for female artists, therefore causing them to speak negatively of one another. There can never be multiple, talented female performers.

Feuds serve as a form of entertainment for fans and critics, but it also brings the preconceived assumption of tension between female artists and performers making it big in the industry.

Banks had a point, but should of worded her opinion differently. The way she explained her thoughts made her seem envious over Cardi’s fam and success. Banks has a long history of insulting other female artists, therefore making this time no different from the times before.

Banks simply wants attention; she gets off of talking bad about other female rappers, essentially pushing the hostility.

Despite the events of this feud, what happened between Banks and Cardi is just another example of how society ignites competition between successful women.
