It’s lights out for several spots on the Modesto Maidique Campus this Saturday.

On Saturday, July 14, University members can expect a power shutdown affecting the Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC), W06, W07, W09 and the Student Athletic Academic Center (SAAC), according to an email sent to the University community by Fernando Larios, construction project manager.

The electricity cut off will serve to aid in connecting permanent power to the new softball-golf complex near these buildings.

“The power shut down is required so FPL can transfer service to upgraded equipment that was installed, this is necessary so to provide electrical service to the new softball complex which is being constructed next to the softball stadium,” Larios said to Student Media.

The new facility will house locker rooms, a player’s lounge and offices for women’s softball and golf coaches in addition to its primary function in housing the women’s softball team and as a training facility, according to Larios.

The power shut off will last from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and it is advised that all electronics in the affected areas be turned off today before the shutdown. Larios added that University functions will not be interrupted except in the buildings mentioned above.

No areas will be closed off, only the buildings listed in the memo will experience power interruption, all other university facilities will not be affected and traffic will continue as normal,” he said.

For additional information on the shutdown, Larios can be contacted either by phone at ext. 7-3264 or by email at flarios@fiu.edu.
