New dining options to arrive at both main campuses

Aramark is out and Chartwells is in, meaning Panthers will get a host of new dining options including food trucks and new restaurants on both campuses.

Chartwells Higher Education is the new company selected by the University to provide dining services for the next 10 years starting on Aug. 4, 2018. This comes after the expiration of the previous vendor Aramark’s contract in June, and a bid war for the new 10-year contract.

As part of their new contract, Chartwells is planning on introducing new restaurants such as Panera Bread, Pincho Factory, and Chipotle to MMC’s Graham Center; and BBC students will have more choices than before with Egg Shoppe, Burger 305, Wolfe Street Subs and a possible pizza concept in the future, according to a press release from Media Relations.

BBC will be receiving Chick-Fil-A services in the form of a food truck, the first of its kind on any college campus. MMC will also have a Chick-Fil-A truck on game days for sporting events.

Some current restaurants will be staying on campus, including Subway, Pollo Tropical, Starbucks, Panda Express, Moe’s and Chick-fil-A. Third-party restaurants Vicky Café and La Carreta and Café at EC will also be left unaffected. The Chili’s space on MMC, however, will be renovated and students will vote on what restaurant will replace it.

For students who live on campus, Chartwells is planning on building a residential dining facility on MMC, according to the press release.

The company has plans to modernize dining experiences at the University by introducing a food tracking mobile app and tabletop tablets for ordering.

Meal plans may be changed with the new dining contract, as Chartwells seeks to create more options including reduced prices and more flexible plans.

Student Media will continue to release updates on the new dining contract as developments arise.
