FIU men’s soccer team dropped there third consecutive match Friday night, 3-2, against the Stetson Hatters.
The Panthers (0-3) jumped out to an early lead with a goal at the 20′ minute from senior forward Santiago Patino, assisted by Matias Barraza.
Stetson was shutout in the first half and was also outnumbered 5-3 in shots on goal.
Despite the poor first half, the Hatters answered quickly with two goals of their own in under five minutes. Stetson forward Daniel O’Brien scored at the 53′ minute and fellow forward Elvis Menayese at the 57′ minute.
The match turned physical as members from both clubs began to collect yellow cards. Panther forward Matias Barraza was ejected for his physical play at the 76′ minute.
Stetson began to pull away from the Panthers even further after the ejection by scoring another goal at the 87′ minute, once again by Stetson forward Elvis Menayese.
FIU would find the back of the net once more with a goal at the 89′ minute from forward Joris Ahlinvi, but the comeback effort was not enough.
For the Panthers next game, the team will travel to Huntington, W Va. to play against Marshall University. The game is set for Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.
