Having our school be in the unofficial Hispanic quarter of the United States a.k.a. Miami means you’ll be finding columns from all different types of Hispanic cultures sprinkled throughout our theme pages this week.
If you visit page 7, for example, you’ll find our editorial boards customized playlist for Hispanic Heritage Month because how can you celebrate this month without a little Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan and Selena.
Of course, the playlist also has modern hits from Mr. 305 himself, Enrique Iglesias and more.
And as one of our columnists writes, one of the best things about Miami is the different types of food each Hispanic culture has brought to our city so if you’re curious to learn where some of your favorite dishes come from, turn to page 10.
Our writers also cover difficult topics such as what it means to be both American and Hispanic, the struggle Venezuela is currently facing and the oversexualiation of Hispanic women.
In our non-theme section of the magazine, you’ll find coverage on the tailgate boycott several Greek organizations did on Saturday, Sept. 1, to protest against the Student Government Association for allegedly discriminating against Greeks with their policies.
So, before I let you go, here’s a reminder that Hispanic Heritage Month officially starts on Saturday, Sept. 15, so take this time to celebrate the culture, the music, the food and everything Hispanics have done for Miami.
While having a Cafecito of course.
