Murder shouldn’t be used to push politics

Ashley Verdugo/ Staff Writer

When political issues arise both parties start to take different sides and politicize the issue.

But this should only happen when it’s a political issue, such as economics, social issues, war or drugs.

Not murder.

Murder isn’t a political topic — it’s a tragedy.

Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old college student from Iowa, was recently murdered by Cristhian Rivera, a 24-year-old undocumented immigrant.

Rivera’s immigration status has caused the politicization of this murder.

Senator Elizabeth Warren was recently asked in an interview to comment on the death of Tibbetts and after sending half-hearted condolences to the family, she started lamenting the treatment of undocumented immigrants at the border.

The murder of Tibbetts isn’t a stepping stool for politicians to use to push their agenda.

Senator Warren completely ignored the tragedy of the murder and instead decided to remind the Tibbetts family that they must also remember the hardships of undocumented immigrants.

The Tibbetts family doesn’t need to be reminded of our immigration system from either side.

They need to be given respect as they deal with the death of Mollie and the upcoming trials of her murderer.

Rivera’s immigration status matters in the court of law because he was undocumented, and is therefore in this country illegally.

Some left-wing media outlets have tried to paint Rivera as an “all-American boy” with no prior criminal cases.

But you can’t be “all-American” if you were never documented.

But, Rivera’s immigration status in this murder case isn’t a new weapon for politicians, such as Senator Warren, to use when discussing how to fix the immigration issue in this country.

This is low.

A girl’s life was heartlessly taken away. Her family and friends will never be given the opportunity to see her again. She’ll never be able to fulfill her dreams. She was murdered by someone who’s clearly mentally deranged.

But rather than mourn the death of Tibbetts, the media and the left have taken it upon themselves to twist the narrative and side with her murderer.

Using Rivera’s immigration status as a defense mechanism for other undocumented immigrants is not helping anyone.

Instead, it’s self-demonizing and shows a lack of compassion.

Just because you’re a politician doesn’t mean you can grab any national news and fit it into your agenda.

If Senator Warren and the left want to help fix the immigration system in this country, then they better start by being self-aware and having a heart instead of politicizing every single tragedy.
