You know you live in Miami when your school is by the bay.
That’s not something everyone can say. Whether you call it the Biscayne Bay campus or the North campus, you’ve probably visited our sister campus at least once– or know someone who has.
As a broadcast journalism major, I’m constantly traveling between the Modesto Maidique and BBC campus and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for FIU’s Golden Panther Express, the shuttle that takes you from MMC to BBC and vice versa. It saves me the hassle of driving through rush hour traffic and gives me the opportunity to sit back, relax and listen to music.
As a constant commuter, I can also tell you that the environment of both campuses is completely different. MMC is like its own city, always loud and bustling with life. BBC, on the other hand, is like a small town, still busy in its own way, but in a much more quiet, relaxed state. While the Graham Center at MMC can sometimes feel claustrophobic, with all the people rushing by, you’ll never feel like you’re running out of air at BBC’s Wolfe University Center.
Because these campuses have their differences, some students love BBC, others hate it, which is why we’ve decided to have our writers tackle the subject of BBC’s future. As you look through this magazine, you’ll find information on the new changes happening at BBC, like the new vegan and vegetarian options coming to campus and what students think about the upcoming merge between the Student Government Councils. If you visit page 9, you can read what improvements our columnists have seen at BBC and what they think still needs work.
And like always, our magazine isn’t just about our theme; if you visit page 2, for example, you’ll find our latest update regarding the SGC-MMC president’s resignation, and page 12 has our recap of this past weekend’s FIU vs. University of Miami football game.
So have a look around and share what you think BBC’s future looks like on our Twitter @_PantherNOW.
