Students will have a chance to experience the City of Love in on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Biscayne Bay campus.

The theme for this year’s dance will be a Night in Paris. The dance is just one of the many events the homecoming council has in store.

Glendria Rolle, LXV dance chair for homecoming, wanted the theme to reflect the diversity of FIU. She wanted to bring the magic of international cities, like Paris, to FIU.

“We want to spread culture, we want to show different parts of the world. There’s more than Florida, and there’s more than the [United] States,” said Rolle.

Rolle emphasises the importance of strategic planning for events. From finding the right DJ, to finding what will capture student interests accordingly.

“We have to see the interests that peaks the students,” said Rolle. “There is a lot of various things you have to take into consideration.”

Homecoming has been planning the dance since the beginning of summer.  Rolle said it’s important to plan for emergencies, such as backed out volunteers or accident.

“You always have to have a plan B because in the event that something happens last minute, you’ll have to know what’s the best route to go,” said Rolle.

Spreading love is the main goal for Rolle and the rest of the homecoming committee. She hopes to create a welcoming space for all FIU students to “kick back, relax and show some school spirit.”

Rolle also hopes that the dance will be a way for the University and other organizations to want to host similar events.

Rolle said students should expect to surprise special caters and other surprises.

The dance will be on Friday, Oct. 12  in the Wolfe University Center ballrooms from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Guests are expected to dress formal to semi-formal. Admission is free for FIU students and $5 for non-FIU guests.

The dance is the last installment of the various events the Homecoming council have planned for the week. Other BBC events include the Dancing the Bay Away, Caribbean Bash, Roary’s Birthday and the Black Student Union Spirit and Soul Brunch.
