Let’s give ’em pumpkin to talk about

Nathaly Carvajal swears it was a joke at first.

She tweeted it out to her friends before getting picked up by FIU’s Police Department and popular Miami reporter Joel Franco, and before she knew it, she was wearing a giant plastic pumpkin on her head to school.

“Well, I have to do it now,” said Carvajal.

The idea came from one of Carvajal’s favorite shows. Carvajal is a fan of the comedy series, The Office. She specifically references the Halloween episode when a character, Dwight, gets a pumpkin stuck on his head after an attempt to get into the holiday spirit.

Carvajal chose a plastic pumpkin to avoid the chance of it getting stuck.

The junior’s pumpkin costume was featured on the official FIU Instagram, which she said she “couldn’t ask for a better university.”

“I feel like this month everyone has the freedom to do whatever they want because it’s Halloween,” said Carvajal.

The feedback from the costume has been positive said Carvajal. One of her favorites was from someone who was having a bad day.

“[They said] I was having a really tough day and seeing you around campus made my day better and I want to thank you for that’,” said Carvajal.

Carvajal does not plan on continuing the costume for the remainder of the month, instead, she hopes to pass the costume to another student.

“I can maybe get like one of the people who were interested enough to DM me to be like ‘hey, do you want to do this next year?’”

Carvajal’s pumpkin costume will not be seen this Halloween, but she does have something else in the work.
