The FIU softball team will take on Memphis University in their first home game of the season. The first game is on Friday, Feb. 8. The two teams last played against each other in 2017 where FIU took the series winning two games out of the three. The Panthers will look to redeem themselves this season after losing 4-0 to Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA championship.

Alongside Memphis, the Panthers will take on three other teams which are UCONN, Bryant, and Michigan State which are all part of what is called the Felsberg invitational. The invitational will take place February 8 to 10 with all three days including double headers.

Outfielder Jackie Schoff led the team in the majority of the statistics throughout the 2018 season such as runs scored, hits, triples, and stolen bases. Schoff, from Bradenton, Florida now entering her senior season looks to repeat such a successful campaign. Schoff was recently named to the preseason all-conference team.

This off-season prior to fall practices beginning, FIU hired Heather Gelbard as assistant coach. A Miami native with prior experience with UMBC, Florida Atlantic, and Barry University.

“I am so excited about the future of this program and eager to contribute to helping FIU softball win a C-USA championship,” said Gelbard.

The 2019 signing class proved to be a bright future ahead for the program with six players being recruited. Out of the six players, four of them are from Florida, leaving the remaining two from California and Maryland. The incoming class is dominated by infielders that will suit up for the Panthers this upcoming season. The Panthers look to have a successful 2019 campaign.
